When the war broke out in Ukraine, The Azadi Project started group and individual psychosocial support sessions for Ukrainian refugee women at a mother-and-child-safe space in Krakow, Poland. We also hired trained and certified Ukrainian therapists to facilitate these sessions. The Azadi Project’s PSS program hosted weekly psychosocial support sessions conducted by a certified Ukrainian therapist in a safe space in the center of Krakow. This was modeled around self-help support groups. The program was based on therapy and coaching techniques and strategies. The facilitators were responsible for fostering discussions among a participant group of no more than 10-12 women.
In six months of the program duration we provided psychosocial support and mental health well-being sessions to 50 Ukrainian refugee women, 87% of group participants indicated that the sessions helped to relieve their stress, and 90% said that the experience was positive.
